Continuing from last time…

6. New Horizons- Flyleaf

Flyleaf is pretty different style from what I generally listen to now, but I have been a loyal fan of them ever since I discovered them about three or four years ago, and they never fail to produce some of the best music ever. New Horizons is the lead singer Lacey’s last album, which is very sad to me, but they now have a new singer, Kristen May, who seems pretty good, so I’ll give her a chance. Anyway, this album goes to show that Flyleaf is an amazing band for staying true to who they are and being fairly consistent in the level of quality of their songs. Since everyone in the band are Christians, that shows in their music, and I’d have to say that they are one of a few Christian bands that I absolutely adore, and their lyrics are so beautiful. As a Christian, I really appreciate a Christian band that creates genuinely good music that appeals to everyone, not just Christians. Anyways, I feel like I could go on forever about how amazing Flyleaf is, but I’ll end here. My fave songs: New Horizons, Fire Fire, Great Love, Broken Wings.

7. Swing Lo Magellan- Dirty Projectors

I discovered Dirty Projectors fairly recently, but they’ve been around for a while. So this most recent album is the album of theirs that I’ve listened to the most. But it is very good; I love how their sound is very unique but also very catchy. I think they have such a special quality about them that not everyone will like them, but I think they’re pretty amazing. My fave songs: About to Die, Gun Has No Trigger, Swing Lo Magellan, Dance for You.

8. PINES- A Fine Frenzy

Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy) has such a beautiful and haunting voice. She has a couple of albums out already that are wonderful, and I love the direction she’s taking with this most recent one. I haven’t listened to this one as much as some of these other albums I’m reviewing, but I still have noticed that Alison is taking a more mellow route with this one. My fave songs: Avalanches (Culla’s Song), Now Is the Start.

9. A Minor Bird- Sucre

There is so much to say about Sucre! Sucre is actually Stacy King, previously from the band Eisley (amazing band you should check out). I discovered Sucre because my previous semi-crush (don’t ask, it’s a long, weird story of my interest in this guy, but it’s weird) posted a link on his facebook page to a story about Sucre and one of her music videos. I knew he had good taste in music, but when I listened to Sucre, I fell in love immediately (with the music, not the guy, though it did make me like him more). Sucre’s sweet name is perfect for this beautiful, sugary-sounding music. Her music video for When We Were Young is also so mesmerizing and beautiful. Basically, the whole feeling you get when exposed to this makes you feel like you’re in a glittery fairy land, or something like that… My fave songs: When We Were Young, Chemical Reaction, Stampede.

10. The Only Place- Best Coast

Best Coast creates very wonderful, mellow-sounding summer tunes. Their first album was pretty wonderful, and this one has a slightly different feeling to it, but is very good nonetheless. They really make me want to visit California (can you believe I’ve never been there?!), and they are all-around a pretty awesome band. My fave songs: The Only Place, How They Want Me to Be, Do You Love Me Like You Used To, Dreaming My Life Away.

So, I guess this concludes this second part, though I may write a third part to this series sometime. But I’ve got a final tomorrow morning, so perhaps I shall get ready for bed soon-ish, but we will see. I may end up staying up later than expected. But at least my final isn’t until 10, so that’s not too bad. Anyways, time to quit my rambling. Good night!

Best Albums of 2012

So, I’m bored on a Saturday afternoon, so I decided to do a review of my favorite albums that came out this year.

1. Bloom- Beach House

I’ve been a fan of Beach House for a few years now, and in my opinion, I think that they keep getting better with each new album. Their most recent album, Bloom, is so beautiful and dreamy. It always makes me happy when I listen to it. You should especially check out their music videos, because they are so weird and unique, but that is what makes them awesome. My fave songs from the album: The Hours, Lazuli, Myth

2. Shrines- Purity Ring

Purity Ring is a fairly new band, since this is their first album, but I’d have to say their debut album is pretty cool. I love how their sound is so unique. I would love to see them live, because from seeing some youtube videos of their live performances, it would be really awesome. My fave songs: Fineshrine, Lofticries, Crawlersout. (I just realized that pretty much all of their song titles are not real words- this makes me happy)

3. Halcyon- Ellie Goulding

Ok, I’ll go ahead and be hipsterish by saying that I was listening to Ellie way before she became popular in the U.S. with her hit, Lights. I really enjoy her newest album, Halcyon, and the first single from it, Anything Could Happen, is my jam- I have probably listened to it a hundred times and still am not tired of it! So, this is a pretty awesome album, and I’ve been listening to it so much since it came out. My fave songs: Anything Could Happen, My Blood, Figure 8.

4. Young & Old- Tennis

Now I will switch to a band that is not very well known. But I think Tennis should be very well known, because they are amazing. If you like happy, cheerful, summery sounding tunes, Tennis is for you. They are another band that has just gotten better since their last album. Their first album got me hooked to their music, but this one, their second album, shows that they’ve matured as a band, and are going to just keep getting better the more music they make. My fave songs: Never to Part, Take me to Heaven, It All Feels the Same, Dreaming.

5. Here- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Yet again another band that I think has gotten better since their first album. (Although Home is obviously one of the best songs ever, and that’s from their first album) Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros create very happy music that just makes you want to dance. I don’t have much else to say about them, so you should just give this album a listen. My fave songs: Man on Fire, That’s What’s Up, One Love to Another.

I’m going to leave it at 5 for now because I’m busy now, but I’ll post more later.

I’ve been watching The Voice ever since the first season, but I’d have to say this season has some of my favorites, specifically Melanie Martinez. I love this girl’s amazing talent, both in singing and photography. And she is just so cute and quirky! I’ve even been inspired by her fashion because I’m wearing a bow in my hair today! Anyway, I’m so glad she’s made it thus far and hope she wins.
